*paula* here…..
Hi from Paula! I am relatively new to this blogging stuff, but I will give it my best shot. After all, my ‘der’ is a HUGE blogger and if anything, I am supporting him
I was told to write a recap of the past year…. where do I even start…
We moved in to our new place and I must admit that it took me awhile to warm up to the neighborhood in which English is primarily only a second language. Luckily we are surrounded by gates which seperate our condos from Little Mexico and the drug dealer in the apartments. It is only when there is a little man peeking out of the garbage that I get a little worried. Don’t be scared though, he is only digging through dog poop for recyclables.
It has taken us the entire past year to start decorating the new house. In fact, we still have yet to hang one single thing on the walls. But in due time…..
We have made progress though. cK refinished the cabinets removing the ungodly ivy that was plastered on them. They look incredible now in a dark cherry finish. I remodeled the master bathroom in a baby blue and chocolate theme. I think it looks tremendously better compared to the white fence previously hanging from the ceiling with ivy and and flowers intertwined. There is still a lot to do, but one step at a time. Hopefully we won’t be there that much longer. I yearn for a backyard for the boys and I to just sit in.
Perfect segway into the biggest part of my life, other than cK of course. My babies. We have 2 incredible doggies, Stryker and Beckham. I could probably spend this entire blog just talking about them as any of you reading this probably know.
Stryker just has this way about him that makes him a crowd favorite. His disposition is that he is cool, calm and collected…yet in secret he loves to cuddle with his mama or daddy. Beckham is just a lover….. of people. The only other dog he likes is Stryker, but if he hangs around any other dogs long enough, he will grow to like them too. Mainly if they are around his same size….which it isn’t easy to find a lot of 5lbers burning around…but they do exist. Becks wants to be held at ALL times or cuddled in some way. He is the most incredible high jumper I have ever seen clearing ridiculous heights that shock everyone he meets. They both completely rock and they are inseperable…complete best friends in everyway.
We have done a lot of traveling over the past year. My favorite trip would have to be Boston. The boys got to come and we just got to do so many once-in-a-lifetime things. Red Sox game at Fenway Park was probably the highlight for me. It was so contagious to be in a city that has as much loyalty and pride as Chicago, which I previously thought was unmatched in every way. Boston gave it a run for its money. I loved the ambience of the city from the brownstones, to the riverwalks, to MIT. It was an incredible trip.
Australia comes a very close second. If we didn’t have to fly around so much within the country of Australia leaving us with very little downtime, I probably would have enjoyed it so much more. Work just got in the way, but at least we got to see all the major cities…Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney. Sydney was my favorite city, and Iceberg was my favorite restaurant. It was perched on a cliff overlooking Bondi Beach. It was a gorgeous night, we drank some cocktails, and enjoyed the view. I will never forget that place. The people of Australia were incredible. I could easily live there, a remarkable country.
Hmmm…. what next. I guess I could probably wrap things up for now and leave you all in suspense as to what I am going to write about next!
Current state of mind:
Right now I am really looking forward to going back to Illinois/Wisconsin for 4th of July. I am most excited to spend time with my family in Palmyra. And an added bonus to my trip home is that my favorite band is playing twice…once at the taste and once at Summerfest!! All my lucky friends - I use the word ‘friend’ loosely because you are only a true friend if you actually go with me to support my freakish obsession with the band - get to see Train live with me. I can’t even wait for that!
Until next time……
Love,
*paula
